Last day before radiation begins!
I took down a "marble madness" kit last week. There were lots of parts; cables, gears, and a chain drive motor to bring marbles up to roll down slides to the bottom to begin again. I figured it would be interesting to put together as well as a good time waster.
Well, it certainly perfected the time waster part, since the chain was just the wrong length to actually, you know, work. So I think he used it for batting practice instead.
I need some better ideas.
But he has school work, his guitar, DVDs, and the gym to keep him occupied. Hopefully the weather will change soon or Houston will take over Seattle as the rainy city.
Speaking of rain, how 'bout these parasols?
How cool is that? A Houston artist took black and white MRI brain scans from a medical book, colorized them, printed them on fabric, and made parasols with the fabric. They've been arranged on this historic house in downtown Houston near Minute Maid park. Judith took the picture above, but there are more here, and there's a full description of the installation here. It's definitly on my "to do" list when I go back to Houston. I'd love to see it all lit up at night, too.
Good luck tomorrow, Chase!

Chase and I are finding our way around a bit better now. It seems that there are two roads that we need to know and they intersect right at our apartment. We are lucky to be where we are in location. The area is very nice, now, if we could just get the weather to cooperate!
It seems that all we do is either go to doctor appointments or go and workout. But then again, I guess that is what our life is right now. We do try to entertain ourselves with DVD's occasionally and now that the Ocar's are coming up we will see those nominated films and make our own predictions.
My sister put up the picture of the parasol house. That was the neatest thing to come across the first day that Chase and I drove around Houston. I was looking over her links and came across this one that explains everything. http://www.downtownhouston.org/Home/News/ If you take a look at the date, you will find that it was written on the same date that Chase went into the hospital with the tumor and the exhibit will run until about the time we leave Houston. How weird is that???
Thanks for your continued prayers for comfort as we are here for a lengthy stay. I didn't think it would be this tough, but, as time goes on and weekends get closer to when Buddy and Jake will visit, it will get better.
We miss everyone back home!
Judith
Chase, FYI, I have chosen Texas as the state I will turn 50 in. I have never been to Texas, and it is too big a state not to experience. You are constantly in our prayers and we know you miss your friends and family. They miss you too! It is our hope and prayer that all sorts of good things come out of the time you spend in Houston. Sometimes it is only in hindsight that we can see the really great things that happen in the midst of our experiences. God's blessings to you and yours, Dori Schelhammer
P.S. Steve wants you to know that he just finished the "best book he ever read"...Team of Rivals by Doris Kearns Goodwin. It is the story of the genius of Abraham Lincoln. Still thinking politics? May be a "must read" for you.
